Children’s services

Specialist movement therapy and support to build your child’s confidence, independence and skills.

Conductive Education for children

Megan Baker House is a charity providing Conductive Education and specialist support for children with neurological movement disorders.

Conductive Education is an active learning approach, developed in Hungary, that teaches children practical ways to dress, eat, learn, move and play for themselves.

Our sessions cover movement, communication, confidence and learning, because progress in one area helps the others. Every child has a personalised annual plan and our practitioners work with your child’s school, physiotherapist and other professionals towards these shared goals.

Who it’s for

We work with children living with neurological movement disorders, including:

If your child’s condition isn’t listed, get in touch and we’ll help if we can.

What happens in a session?

Our Conductive Education practitioners lead each session through structured activities and imaginative play, breaking every skill into small steps. Children practise while they’re having fun, working towards the goals in their personalised plan.

Fine manipulation

Small hand movements to improve everyday skills like fastening buttons or zips and holding a pen or cutlery.

Standing practice

Using mobility aids to build balance, weight transfer and the confidence to stand independently.

Play-led activities

Structured, imaginative play that keeps children motivated through the repetition they need to learn a skill.

Personalised annual plan

Built around your child’s goals, shared with you and reviewed each year and adjusted as their skills progress.

Regular support

Weekly sessions and early intervention

Our weekly group sessions give your child regular, structured practice all year. Each repetition helps the brain build new pathways, a process called neuroplasticity.

The brain is at its most adaptable in early childhood. Starting early gives your child more time to build on every gain.

Children under three can have 40 free sessions, so families can start early without worrying about cost. You don’t always need a diagnosis or a referral to get started.

Where sessions run

We run sessions from our purpose-built therapy centre in Ledbury, Herefordshire and from other venues across the region, including Gloucestershire, Shropshire and Worcestershire.

We also work in schools and at home, so your child can practise where they live and learn.

Get in touch and we’ll help you find your most convenient option.

Costs and funding

Our sessions are subsidised and your child’s first assessment is free, with a written report. Trusts and support groups also fund Conductive Education for children. We can point you towards the right one. We give free help with Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reports and annual reviews, too.
