Intensive sessions for people with Parkinson’s
Short, intensive sessions to help you move with more confidence and control.
About Conductive Education for Parkinson’s
Parkinson’s changes how your body moves, but it doesn’t have to define what you can do.
At Megan Baker House, we run intensive Conductive Education sessions for adults living with Parkinson’s, built around short, focused blocks of practice. You’ll learn practical strategies you can use every day, from getting dressed with more control to walking with more confidence.
Sessions run in Ledbury every August and during some school holidays, in small groups where participants encourage each other and share their progress.
Over a few concentrated days, you’ll focus on the specific skills that matter most in your daily life and develop tools you can keep using afterwards.

How Parkinson’s affects movement
Parkinson’s affects your nervous system’s control over your movement. Tremors, muscle stiffness and slower movement are common, along with changes to your balance, gait and fine motor control, such as handwriting or buttoning a shirt. These changes often build gradually and can chip away at your confidence as much as your physical ability.
Conductive Education takes an active approach. Sessions focus on task-based activities, repeating and refining the specific movements you find difficult, with a conductive education specialist guiding you through each one. This active, repetitive practice supports neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to build new pathways for movement, even in a progressive condition like Parkinson’s.
It’s a principle at the heart of your healthspan, too. Our sessions focus on preserving your mobility, balance and control for as long as possible by working on real, functional movements you use every day, so you can carry your progress in the sessions into your daily life.
What the sessions work on
Each block of sessions concentrates on helping you rebuild your motor skills in a programme specific to Parkinson’s. Participants work hard, motivate each other and share what they have achieved. It can help you develop:
Fine manipulation
Hand and finger control for everyday tasks like writing, buttons and cutlery.
Balance and coordination
Stability and controlled movement to help you stay steady on your feet.
Walking
Weight transfer, gait and confidence, so you can move with more freedom.
In their own words
David’s wife
“My sense of wellbeing and positivity have improved. I don’t feel so hopeless about the diagnosis and I can see how I can help myself. I’ve learned how to move more effectively and confidently. The staff and the group have made me feel less isolated. It’s been hard work but life-changing.”
Help with the cost
Our sessions are subsidised and there’s Parkinson’s-specific funding available, too. Get in touch to find out more.
