Unleash Your Inner Superhero: The Power of Conductive Education at Megan Baker House

At Megan Baker House (MBH), everything starts with you. Your goals, your challenges, and your aspirations shape what we do. Whether your aim is mastering a small but meaningful skill like tying shoelaces independently or achieving a bigger milestone like walking more confidently across a room, we begin by listening.

Our approach is person-centred because progress looks different for everyone — and we believe everyone has the potential to grow, including us. Together, we turn “what ifs” into “I did it!”

So, what is Conductive Education?

Conductive Education (CE) is a holistic, active learning approach designed for children and adults with neurological motor conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s, stroke, and Acquired Brain Injury, among others.

Rather than passive therapy, CE focuses on doing. It uses structured, task-based learning to develop independence, confidence, and practical life skills that transfer into everyday living.

Sessions are led by highly trained Conductive Education Specialists (called conductors) who guide participants through carefully planned activities that support both physical and cognitive development.

At MBH, we know that one size doesn’t fit all. That’s why we offer:

  • Individual and group sessions
  • Weekly, fortnightly, or monthly options
  • In-person (at one of our venues or home sessions) or virtual delivery
  • School sessions within school environments
  • All year-round sessions for adults
  • Intensive sessions during school holidays

Our aim is to make CE accessible and meaningful for each person we work with.

What happens in a session?

Purposeful Equipment

We use specialised equipment such as plinths, ladders, slatted stools, balance cushions, and gym balls. These tools provide valuable feedback and support posture, balance, coordination, symmetry, and weight transference in lying, sitting, and standing positions.

Real-Life Skills

Every activity is designed with daily life in mind. From building core movement skills like sitting and standing, to developing fine motor abilities for tasks such as dressing or writing, each step contributes toward greater independence.

All Ages, Individual Goals

From young children to adults, programmes are tailored to personal goals and abilities. There’s no “standard template” — progress is built around what matters to each individual.

Working Together

We actively involve families, carers, and educators. Through groups and workshops, we share strategies that help continue progress beyond sessions. CE works best when it becomes part of everyday life.

Coffee & Chat

Our informal coffee mornings and carer sessions provide space to share experiences, gain practical advice, and build supportive networks. Understanding a condition better and learning how to help a loved one thrive can make a real difference. Keep your eyes peeled for our next one.

Why Conductive Education matters

  • Greater independence — Participants learn to problem-solve and take ownership of movement.
  • Improved confidence — Small achievements build motivation and a positive mindset.
  • Whole-person development — CE supports physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth.
  • Long-term impact — Skills learned are designed to transfer into daily life.
  • Expert guidance — CES’ provide structured, personalised support every step of the way.
