I live in Coleford in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and I found out about Megan Baker House from Marilyn, the Family Coordinator at Coleford Early Years Centre.
Marilyn then contacted Megan Baker House and a conductor came to give us a presentation on Conductive Education and the centre.
The application process was very straight forward as we were able to sign up to Conductive Education there and then and within a week Shay had met the Conductor and was invited to attend the centre.
Before attending the centre, Shay was crawling and he could just about pull himself up. He could not walk independently at all. Then within a couple of months of Conductive Education sessions, Shay was walking unaided! It was like a miracle really. Shay has been attending sessions at Megan Baker House for 18 months now and he loves it. It helps that he is within a group of children with similar abilities to himself and they all learn together.
Shay is a very confident outgoing child and he wants to be able to help himself as much as he can. He has come on so much since attending Megan Baker House, not just his walking but his speech, dexterity, coordination and determination to be more independent have all been greatly improved.
For me, coming to Megan Baker House gives me an insight into Cerebral Palsy and disability awareness in general.
The staff are fabulous ? they are very supportive and informative and make you feel very welcome. Getting to talk to Jo, the Conductors and other parents is an additional bonus as they all hold a wealth of information and can all relate to our situation.
I would say to any parent interested in Megan Baker House, apply now and don?t leave it as you don?t realise the benefits until you?ve actually started, then they start flooding out in front of you!
